Inspect Model Motion With a glb animation viewer
A GLB can contain a still model, one animation, or several clips. Open yours in a viewer to inspect the model and check whether playback controls and clips are available; viewing motion is different from creating it.
Explore the file, motion, and materials
Animation is only one part of a GLB preview. These related guides cover opening the file, using a browser-based viewer, and checking how its surfaces appear.
Follow motion from file to preview
A useful animation check has three parts: load the asset, find its clips, then watch what changes over time.
-
1
Open the GLB
Select the file in a compatible GLB viewer and wait for its geometry and materials to appear. A visible model confirms that something loaded, but it does not establish that the file contains animation.
-
2
Look for animation clips
If the viewer offers animation controls, inspect its clip list or playback selector. A GLB may store multiple named clips, one clip, or none; an empty list is not a playback problem by itself.
-
3
Play and inspect
Play each available clip and rotate the camera to check movement from more than one angle. Watch for unexpected jumps, stationary parts, or motion that differs from the source project.
What an animation check can tell you
A still preview and a moving preview answer different questions. This comparison helps separate information in the asset from controls supplied by the viewer.
Still GLB preview
GLB with a playable clip
Geometry
Still GLB preview
The model's shapes can be inspected.
GLB with a playable clip
The same shapes can be inspected while motion plays.
Animation data
Still GLB preview
No clip is confirmed by the still image alone.
GLB with a playable clip
A selectable clip indicates animation data is available to the viewer.
Timeline
Still GLB preview
A single pose is visible.
GLB with a playable clip
Poses can change as the clip advances.
Moving parts
Still GLB preview
Their intended motion cannot be judged.
GLB with a playable clip
Their visible motion can be checked during playback.
Camera inspection
Still GLB preview
Useful for checking shape and surface appearance.
GLB with a playable clip
Useful for finding motion hidden from the initial angle.
Editing
Still GLB preview
Viewing does not modify the model.
GLB with a playable clip
Playing a clip does not change its keyframes.
Diagnosis
Still GLB preview
A still pose cannot prove that a clip works.
GLB with a playable clip
Playback helps reveal jumps, missing movement, or unexpected timing.
Limits and edge cases
A preview is a practical inspection step, not proof that every application will render the file identically.
-
Viewing does not create animation
A viewer cannot make a static GLB move merely by opening it. Playback depends on animation data in the asset and on the viewer supporting that data.
WorkaroundAnimate the model in a 3D editor, export the animation with the GLB, and inspect the exported file again.
-
Playback does not edit keyframes
Selecting or playing a clip is not the same as changing its timing, poses, or rig. Do not rely on a preview to repair a faulty sequence.
WorkaroundMake those changes in the source project, then re-export the GLB.
-
A loaded model may have no usable clips
The geometry can display even if no animation was exported or the viewer cannot use an extension the clip depends on.
WorkaroundCheck the export settings and test the file in another compatible viewer before deciding the animation is missing.
-
Appearance and motion are separate checks
Correct playback does not guarantee that textures, lighting, or materials match the source application.
WorkaroundInspect the surface separately; the glb viewer with texture guide explains what to check when a model looks wrong.
Ready to inspect your model?
Check the GLB you have
Open the viewer and inspect your file for visible geometry and available animation controls. If a clip plays, watch it from several angles; if it does not, check the exported asset before assuming the motion is broken.
Open the viewer- Check for available clips
- Inspect movement from different angles
- Keep viewing separate from editing
Animation questions
Create or edit the animation in a 3D application that can export animated glTF or GLB assets. Export the model with its animation included, then open the resulting GLB in a compatible viewer to check that the clip plays.
Yes. The glTF format allows an asset to contain multiple animation clips, although an individual file may contain just one or none. If a viewer exposes a clip selector, check each available clip rather than judging the file by the first pose.
The file may have been exported without animation, the selected clip may be paused, or the viewer may not support something the asset requires. Check for a clip list and playback control first, then inspect the export settings or try another compatible viewer.
A viewer is primarily for inspecting the exported result; playback alone does not edit poses, keyframes, or timing. To change the motion, edit the source model in a suitable 3D application and export a new GLB.
Not necessarily. Playback can reveal how parts move, but materials, textures, lighting, and behavior in the destination application still need their own checks. Review the file in the environment where you plan to use it.
